First Watch
February 23, 2019
If there’s anything I love, it’s stumbling onto a new breakfast/brunch spot. That’s what happened a couple of months ago when my husband and I drove to a furniture store in Bluffton. After a couple of hours of fruitless shopping, we were starved and the sales rep recommended First Watch, The Daytime Café, located on Fording Island Road.
Yes, there was a wait, which you will read about on Yelp reviews. Ours was about 30 minutes, right at lunch time. But the hostess was friendly and funny and made the wait bearable. Evidently some of the locals knew the drill, as they brought their reading material and sat around engrossed in books and magazines.
The menu was extensive, and offered lots of healthy options – multigrain pancakes and toast, avocado spread, egg white omelets, BLTs, and some really beautiful-looking drinks in a wide range of colors.
My husband opted for a traditional egg and bacon breakfast with pancakes on the side, all delicious. I went with the breakfast burrito, chock full of goodness. We had an exceptional waiter who delivered delicious coffee as needed. We were captivated as we watched him deliver one beautiful plate after another to the diners around us.
Only after the visit did I discover that First Watch is a chain, although it didn’t seem like it at all. And, you need to know it closes at 2:30, so be sure to factor that in to your visit.
